Description
A tribute to the City of Palermo, PANORMUS (Greek: Πάνορμος) is the ancient name of the modern city, capital of Sicily, meaning “all port” in Greek, reflecting its excellent harbor and strategic importance.
The oversized design stands out for its unique quatrefoil lenses, set within a frame designed to astonish the observer.
The term derives from the Latin quattuor (four) and lobus (lobe/flap), indicating its structure consisting of four circular sectors.
In architecture and the decorative arts, the quatrefoil is an element composed of four intersecting lobes (circular arcs) of the same size, forming a shape similar to that of a four-leaf clover or a four-petaled flower.
This ancient element was also typical of the architecture of the time of Frederick II and was often used for fine decorations on clothing and crowns, such as that of Empress Constance of Palermo.
